Square Heart Centre

Interventional & Non Invasive Cardiology

Cardiac patients are catered to either at the Outpatient Clinics or at the Inpatient floor.

At the Outpatient level we have multiple cardiology consultants who serve cardiac patients daily through fully equipped medical consultation and exam rooms. Our health screening centre offers a cardiac checkup package. This package unlike other packages focuses on the patient’s cardiac status. Non invasive cardiac investigations are also performed at the cardiology outpatient clinic. This includes ECG, Echocardiography (including Trans-esophageal Echo and Exercise Echo) Pediatric Echo and Fetal Echocardiography, exercise stress test, 24 hours holter ECG monitoring and Vascular Screening (duplex studies). Inpatients are typically admitted on 10th floor of the main building.

Patients requiring emergency cardiac care are typically transferred to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) from the emergency room. Patients in this category are typically individuals with heart attacks, unstable angina, heart failure and various other cardiac problems that require continuous monitoring and treatment.

The CCU has 11 beds with 6 channel bedside monitors, ventilators, defibrillators; as well as16 channel central monitoring system Telemetry with continuous recording system exists in CCU. There is provision for CRRT & Hemodialysis at the CCU.

Invasive cardiac procedures which include Coronary Angiogram, Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA), Coronary artery stenting, Balloon Valvuloplasty, Pacemaker implantation, Biventricular Pacemaker Implantation, Combo-device Implantations, Automated Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (AICD) and Intra-Aortic Balloon pump (IABP) are done in the Cath labs.

SQUARE Hospital is equipped two fully functional cathlabs, one of which has DSA facilities. This facility allows diagnostic and invasive procedures on peripheral arteries (i.e. renal arteries). This cathlab is also used by Neuro surgeons for neuro intervention and radiologist for interventional radiology.

Our cardiologists are routinely performing Angiograms, PTCA’s and Coronary artery stenting. Angiogram typically requires 4 to 6 hours prior fasting. The femoral artery (artery in the groin) or the radial artery is cannulated and a catheter is introduced upto the root of the aorta. This is the large artery rising from the heart. Dyes are then introduced into the openings of the right and left coronary arteries and X-rays are taken for cine mode recording. This allows complete evaluations of the coronary tree. Typically this whole procedure (from preparation to finishing) takes 30 minutes. The patient is then transferred to the post cath observation area and remains there for 4 to 6 hours.

CT Angiogram: Computed Tomography Angiography (CTA) is a test which visualizes blood flow in the vessels throughout the body with the help of X-rays. The latest 64-slice CT machine allows us to perform CT Angiograms

including Coronary CT Angiogram. This is performed routinely at the Radiology & Imaging centre located on the 3rd floor of the hospital main building.

Cardiovascular Surgery:

Cardiac surgery today has evolved into a service which is in demand all over the world. Operating the most central and one of the vital organs of the body demands the best of human resources, technical skills, equipment and team effort. There is no margin of error. World class centres have a mortality rate of less then 1% in uncomplicated coronary artery bypass surgery.

SQUARE Heart Centre has set a benchmark in cardiac surgery in the country and results are not only best in the country but comparable to even better than international standards.

Our world class surgical team performed 700 open heart operations within a short span of time with an average mortality <1.0% and NO MORTALITY in normal risk open heart operations. Besides critical surgery like post myocardial ventricular septal rupture repair with CABG and Left ventricular an_ _rysm repair, we have performed several Redo CABG without any morbidity or mortality.
